Panama.Chillen met een luiaard.

Awaken to a tropical chorus of motmots, toucans, and fruitcrows.

Your bedroom is at treetop level, no more than 40 feet from the birds.

In the cool Panamanian dawn you can feel Panamá’s great rainforest awakening around you. Blue Cotingas and Green Shrike-Vireos, birds normally glimpsed high in the tops of trees, perch right outside your Canopy Tower room.

Up a flight of stairs in the dining room, a cup of coffee, fresh juice and rolls await you.  Settle down at a table next to the window with your binoculars and field guide handy.  Above the endless tropical forest of Soberanía National Park, a ship glides through the Panamá Canal. The howling of a distant troupe of monkeys punctuates the birdcalls.  With unobstructed views, in complete comfort, you greet the morning sun. Through the unscreened open window, nature carries on its morning business.

Don’t worry if you are new to birding, this is a great place to start. Dozens of species can be seen right from your window, most of them clearly illustrated in Panamá’s excellent bird guides. In addition to our birding trips, the Canopy Tower is also a great place for those with a general interest in exploring the tropical forest. Giant, iridescent Morpho Butterflies flash their blue wings at you as you ride up the twisting road up to the Tower. Howler Monkeys startle you with a sudden roar overhead. Each shrub, tree and flower seems to be different from the last, reflecting Soberanía’s extraordinary diversity.

Come to the Canopy Tower for one of our guided birding trips. Spend a few nights with us and experience some of the best birding Panama has to offer. We are sure you will enjoy your stay.

Dear friends,

Canopy Family has three award-winning birding lodges: the Canopy Tower, not far from Panama City in Soberanía National Park, and the Canopy Lodge, in the hills of El Valle de Antón, and the Canopy Camp in the fabled Darién province of eastern Panama, the most biologically diverse place in Central America. All of our Panama eco-lodges offer world-class, unique natural history and birding tours, led by friendly, knowledgeable bilingual guides. Our Panama eco-lodges are some of the most unique destinations for ecotourism in Panama.

The Canopy Tower features rooms and an observation deck mere feet from the canopy of the rainforest, virtually at eye-level with such avian treats as toucans, tanagers, honeycreepers and hawks, as well as amazing looks at two- and three-toed sloths and Geoffroy’s Tamarins and Mantled Howlers, two monkey species otherwise nearly impossible to see this well!  From the Canopy Tower you can visit legendary Pipeline Road, arguably the best birding location in Mesoamerica, and other very birdy sites.  You’ll have exclusive access to some of the best birding Panama has to offer!

From the Canopy Lodge, with a veranda that overlooks the garden feeders and rooms nestled among gardens by a creek, you may go on outings to Cerro Gaital, La Mesa, Las Minas or other Panama vacation spots notorious for Caribbean-slope specialties.

Our newest eco-lodge, the Canopy Camp, features comfortable safari-style tents, in the heart of Darién—Panama’s most biologically-diverse region, where macaws, curassows, harpy eagles and jaguars can be found.

We also have a beautifully restored Canal Zone-era house that is our Canopy Bed & Breakfast. It is perfect for families and is walking distance from Pipeline Road and just 10 minutes from the Canopy Tower, one of the most sough-after destinations for ecotourism in Panama.

And, of course, you may enjoy our Canopy Adventure zip-line & nature trail, just a short walk from the Canopy Lodge. With multiple ziplines that take you through the treetops at high speed, it’s one of the best ways to take a Panama rainforest tour. Both the Canopy Lodge and the Canopy Adventure are just 2 hours from Panama City!

So, yes, please come experience one of the most unique destinations for ecotourism in Panama for yourself, and see why Newsweek proclaimed, “Today, a stay at the Canopy Tower is one of the premier ecotourism experiences in the world.”

We are looking forward to your visit soon!

Best wishes and happy birding,
