Discover a hidden conservation wilderness, a high country playground, an historic station, an exceptional retreat. Spray Point Station is an historic high country merino station in Marlborough, New Zealand, set on the banks of the River Spray in the Waihopai Valley. Hosts Jenny and Roland Mapp invite you to step ‘Off the Mapp’ and follow in the footsteps of the old musterers from a bygone era. Stay in our lovingly restored Cob Quarters, full of mementoes from the past, or explore the station from our Kiwi bush retreat, Boundary Creek Cabin. Hike on the Waihopai Walking Track, swim in the crystal clear Spray and Waihopai rivers, explore our conservation wilderness, help with our predator control programme, go bird watching, hunting, fishing, or horse riding… you’ll discover peace, privacy, and rugged natural beauty all year round.

Tune in to the rhythms of nature, take time to watch the sun move across the sky, and feel your cares melt away in our lovingly restored cob cottage. The cottage is perched on the banks of the Waihopai River with views to the mountains and across the station. Built in the 1900s for blade shearers and drovers on the main stock route to Molesworth Station, the cottage is a blend of history, charm and offers traditional high country hospitality. Relaxing is mandatory and made easy with separate sleeping and living spaces. The spacious bedroom offers a queen bed and four natural timber bunks. In the living area unwind in front of an open fire, or sit and enjoy the views of the mountains from the rear veranda. The front deck provides a perfect spot for breakfast in the morning sun. A separate indoor bathroom is a modern luxury, and a short path from the deck leads to the heated outdoor shower on a ledge overlooking the river and our wonderful gas-fired hot baths under the stars. Kitchen facilities and BBQ gas cooking are built into the rear veranda. Find a taste of kiwi culture with added comfort in the Boundary Creek Cabin, tucked 10kms up the Spray valley and surrounded by native birds, rare plants, and a waterfall creek. Warm and inviting, the fully insulated and doubleglazed cabin has beech flooring, macrocarpa walls and a red cedar roof. Boundary Creek Cabin is a perfect retreat where guests can be close to nature, watching for game from the veranda in the evenings. Boundary Creek Cabin can sleep up to six in large timber bunks with comfortable mattresses. On warm days, sit outside at a picnic table with outdoor gas BBQ cooking. Inside, a sofa and a log burner fireplace make it a perfect retreat year round. The cabin is only accessible by 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Facilities: Self-catering facilities are provided in the cabin and the cottage, with BBQ cooking, a fridge, and tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast is included at Cob Quarters. All linen is provided, including high quality Egyptian cotton linen and bedding in Cob Quarters, and blankets and merino sleeping bag liners in Boundary Creek Cabin.
